John Fabello

Employee at Chegg

Recruiting in the technology space since 1993. In that time I have had the opportunity to recruit and staff a variety of roles, everything from a help desk technician to a Technical Fellow at Microsoft. From Unix System V to CentOS, not scaled to scaled. HTML, JavaScript, Perl/Mason, PHP, RoR C++, Java, Python, C developers. Then there is the Microsoft Tech stack, DOS to .Net, VB to C#, LanManager to Windows Server.

I think what I have learned is that there is a lot of stuff out there to keep track of and I am a nerd at heart.

Goal - Keep track of THE latest technologies and how to find the people that know how to make those technologies bend to their will.

Specialties: Recruiting, Product Sales, Service Sales, Program Management, Project Management

Ning Sr. Recruiter

Lucky Charms, daily lunches, frequent Marc Andreessen sightings and all right in the heart of beautiful downtown Palo Alto! I can throw a rock (not literally of course, the police dept is across the street) and hit great restaurants, bars and coffee shops. Plus! Literally a 5 minute stroll down University Ave from the CalTrain.

Ning is the leading online platform for the world’s organizers, activists and influencers to create social experiences that inspire action. For brands of all shapes and sizes, Ning makes it easy to build custom and powerful social websites. Ning sites span categories like politics, entertainment, small business, non-profits, education and more, connecting millions of people every day around the topics they are passionate about. Palo Alto, Calif.-based Ning was co-founded in October 2004 by Chairman Marc Andreessen and is privately held. For more information, visit

Our platform services are generally built on Java, with occasional Ruby, Python, and C++. The database of choice is MySQL but don’t shy away from NoSQL when it’s right. We track and use many open-source projects (eg. Apache, Chef, Thrift) and have open-sourced our own tools when it makes sense (find us on github).

Katango Staffing Consultant (contract)

Katango was in very early start up mode, had received funding from KPCB and had yet to develop a released product. They needed to hire a Sr. Engineer with actual hands on experience with Machine learning on large scale. They were also looking for a RoR developer who had developed a scalable application and had been there and done that when it came to DB systems and they needed an IOS developer.....Did I mention they were still developing the product? I came in and was able to find the candidates they needed and streamlined their interview process and hired the engineers needed. Amazing experience.
